Main Outpatients Department, Kingston Hospital

This busy south-west London hospital has seen levels of activity within the Outpatient Department increase significantly in the recent years. Existing arrival facilities were both unsuitable and inadequate to deal with the increased demand. Refurbishment works, allied to a new self check-in system, eased congestion and improved patient flows within the building.

The creation of a new entrance extension allowed the introduction of a two-storey void, connecting ground and first-floor waiting areas, improving the patient experience, increasing natural daylight and considerably aiding wayfinding. The Phlebotomy department held the greatest footfall within the Main Outpatients Department and was relocated to a single storey building by the current main entrance. This significantly reduced patient numbers entering the Main Outpatients department and eased congestion.
