Children’s Home Completes – Creating a Home Within a Home
Hunters’ architectural team has completed a welcoming new children’s home in West London, embodying the “home within a home” concept through a thoughtful arrangement of terraced houses within a wider community setting.

The development features red and yellow brick homes, each with private gardens and terraces, ranging from two to four bedrooms. Six of the terraced houses are designed with individual front doors opening onto a central ‘street’, whose focal point is a vibrant multi-use games area for all the children to enjoy. To the southwest, a softer, greener shared space provides a tranquil contrast to the lively central area.
A seventh building completes the street scene – an educational facility designed to reflect the same homely character as the residential terraces, supporting both learning and community interaction.
Security and privacy are integral to the design, with lockable gates and careful screening from the nearby road. Sustainability has also been prioritised: many existing trees were retained, new trees have been planted, and the roofs are equipped with solar panels.
Dedicated parking spaces for carers are provided near the entrance, all equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.
James Wallace Director commented “Throughout the design process we were careful to create a human scale – a series of ‘homes within homes’ – echoing the principles behind our later living projects. Our aim was for children, staff, and visitors to experience a welcoming new streetscape, with private front doors and outdoor spaces, so that everyone feels as though they are truly coming home.”
