Planning Granted for 64-bed Care Home

Good news from our Later Living team as planning permission has been granted, subject to section 106 agreement, for Bartons Road in Havant, Hampshire. The proposed care home for Brackley Investments ltd will provide 24-hour nursing, personal and dementia care for the residents.

The 64 bedrooms sit within eight different wings which act as ‘households’, these households provide self-contained facilities and security. The design is based on an H-shaped footprint to enable the wings of specialist accommodation to be provided on each side in ‘households’ with two sets of 16 bedrooms on each floor. Most of the staffing and communal facilities are within the central link that connects the two wings.

As dementia specialists we work closely with clients to make sure layouts work for both residents and staff, designing best practice for care both in terms of optimising resident to staff ratios as well as providing a manageable space for dementia patients.

The two storey building features dual pitched roofs and the linking block being flat roofed in form to enable the creation of a green roof and provision of solar PV. The external walls of the building are predominantly red brick with small elements of grey composite cladding. The pitched roofs would be covered with plain grey tiles to compliment those used on the newly constructed residential development to the south, Brookvale.

On site facilities include hair salon, café, library and cinema as well as living spaces and dining areas. A mixture of balconies and terraces are set around landscaped gardens. The main focus for Barton Road is end of life care.
