Cardiac Catheter Labs at St George’s

Hunters has designed five new cardiac catheter labs for St George’s Hospital in South London, bringing state of the art technology to one of the country’s leading coronary centres.

The scheme replaces the five existing cardiac catheter labs across two phases and, through intelligent spatial planning, provides fully compliant theatre spaces with significantly improved storage and staff areas.

The first phase of the project has delivered two single plane catheter labs with the scheme constructed during the pandemic within a wider surgical environment.

Careful co-ordination with the primary equipment provider (Philips) has enabled us to make the best use of a confined space while integration of clinical applications improves clinical workflows and reduces ‘clutter’ around the procedure table.

Soothing illuminated panels with forests of green have been integrated into the ceiling and sympathetically compliment the green palette of the room aiming to reduce patient anxiety during procedures.

The second phase is due to start on site this November and will deliver a further three new labs – two bi-planes and one hybrid which requires a larger space allocation and increased strengthening to support the weight of the equipment.

This is one of a number of recent projects our team has designed and delivered for St Georges NHS Trust.
