Social Value – Community Action

Delivering for our Communities and Society

For us it is about how Hunters ‘gives back’ and makes a positive impact on the environment, the local economy and the communities we live and work in.

The communities which we support vary, but we start with our own team, everyone here has access to a confidential Employee Assistance Programme including counselling,  a Cycle to Work Scheme, our popular sports & social club and fresh fruit.

Volunteering

Everyone at Hunters is given a day per year to volunteer in a community project; this has included creating poppy’s for Remembrance Day, gardening for London Wetland Centre and helping out at parties for the elderly for Help the Aged.

Educating

  • We inspire the next generation into our industry at school age
  • We coach and give back to those studying our professional subjects
  • We support graduates to achieve professional status (RIBA / RICS / CIOB)

Schools – We regularly attend and promote opportunities within our profession at both school and client careers fairs and provide annual placements for local students. We recently teamed up with Westminster Council to deliver paid for work placements across our Architecture and Marketing teams.

Universities – We support and mentor University of Reading undergraduate students who are studying Building Surveying, Construction Management & Quantity Surveying. Students present a ‘real life’ project to the University as well as a consultant team including Hunters. The module combines technical work with presentation skills practice, teamwork, risk analysis and project delivery skills. We have affiliations with other Universities and sponsor the Architects for Health Student Design Award.

Professional Industry Mentoring – As members of the Housing Forum, we actively contribute to industry best practice and discussions. Several members of our team currently serve or have served on Design Review Panels and charity boards, contributing their time, expertise and professional knowledge.

Sponsoring Our Local Community

As a long-term Hammersmith business, we support local organisations whenever possible. From using local printers and third-party service providers, to working with local recruitment agencies and schools, we believe in maintaining strong local relationships and an open community dialogue.

Charity Sponsorship

Every year we sponsor the Lyric Theatre (they are on our doorstep) to enable local children and their carers to see their popular Christmas Show. We also support ad hoc initiatives including food banks and community events.

At Christmas the team has fun joining in the considerate Santa charity donation. So far this has raised over £700 for charities including Age UK Kensington & Chelsea, Blue Cross Animal Hospital and Hammersmith Community Gardens Association.

Measuring our performance

We use the following third-party assessments to measure the changes we make:

  • National Tom’s Framework (Themes Outcomes and Measures)
  • Social Value Portal
  • CHAS Social Value Certification
  • London Living Wage Certification including for undergraduates on work placement
