King George Hospital

The Hunters healthcare team has designed a new extension to house the elective surgical hub at King George Hospital. The £14million addition, is just one of eight across the country to be accredited as part of a national scheme that recognises high standards and a commitment to training.

Two new operating theatres, bigger staff facilities, and double the recovery beds, enables the Trust to undertake 100 additional operations each week with the theatres designed to facilitate robotic surgery and interoperative radiotherapy in the future.

The extension is nestled between two of the hospitals original two storey wings and extends to three stories. The detailed interior fit out took inspiration from the consultation process with staff, patients, and visitors ensuring an additional focus on improved clinical storage, easy to recognise nurse bases and maximising natural light in the public and staff areas. PALS offices, clinical equipment, workshops and a central drugs store have been incorporated into the design in response to site wide needs.

It was recognised at the HSJ Awards for helping patients get the care they need more quickly.

It’s a blend of functionality and aesthetics, tailored to meet the needs of everyone who steps foot inside the King George Hospital extension.
