Radlett

St John’s Church

This redevelopment of St John’s Church in Radlett, Hertfordshire, designed by Hunters, brings new life to a cherished community site. The project transforms the former single-storey temporary structure into a bold yet welcoming landmark that serves spiritual, educational, and residential needs. At its heart is a contemporary church, framed by calm, clean brickwork and a striking, rust-toned canopy that marks the main entrance with clarity and warmth.

Delivered in partnership with the Diocese and Hertsmere Council, the scheme includes a nursery, three new houses, and three apartments—all the housing is affordable. Over 120m² of green roof, enhanced landscaped areas help integrate the development into its setting.

The site’s legacy dates back to 1953, when the original temporary church was built on land donated by Lady Phillimore in memory of Archbishop William Temple. This thoughtful redevelopment respects that history and creates a peaceful, purposeful space for future generations.
