Imagining Lower Mill

Our Senior Living team has released new images of Lower Mill, a new retirement community, in Ewell Surrey. Due to complete in Autumn, the design amalgamates listed buildings and contemporary new build, developing the relationship with the inside and outside by making use of its waterside location and grounds.

Working with Birchgrove and the developer Levanter, the 58 superior assisted living apartments are designed for comfort and relaxation. They are a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedroom, many with river and tree top views. Residents will have access to exclusive onsite amenities such as a restaurant, Club room and Snug bar, exercise studio, a communal terrace overlooking the river and landscaped gardens.

Our design proposal takes lighting, colour schemes and tonal contrast ensuring it is contemporary and dementia friendly with casting of shadows, audible signs and tactile information considered. It will offer flexibility with support for changing levels of frailty and comfortable resident communal areas with a range of facilities. The layout encourages social interaction to help combat loneliness.

Residents will enjoy communal facilities and care support catered to their needs. The benefits include; a sustainable development with good access to public transport local shops and services, a scheme with a sense of place and character, taking on board the historic nature of the site, homes that are easy to read and navigate with barrier free access throughout, designed to incorporate Dementia Enabling principles and development that is secure, with both natural design measures and use of technology.
