St. Giles View

Situated around 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of Winchester in Hampshire, St Giles view is a contemporary 60-bedroom care home for the charity Brendoncare. The new home has an attractive, elevated position creating stunning views of the south downs.

The plan of the home is formed by two L-shapes which are linked by the household lounge and dining rooms. Each household includes 10 bedrooms each with their own communal spaces but linked to achieve 20 bedrooms on each upper floor.

Brand-new and purpose-built, our design makes a significant contribution to the provision of high-quality accommodation in the local area. The home provides a safe and secure environment, with 24-hour on-site residential care. The ground floor is designated to the social communal hub that opens out into soft landscaped gardens. The scheme has been designed on a challenging site with extensive level changes, despite this the gardens are fully accessible and set within a mature tree setting which ensures they are private and secure, whilst retaining excellent views of the south downs.

The 1.25 acres (0.5 hectares) site includes a design strategy which achieves:

– Dementia enabled accommodation to enhance the living standards of residents

– A sustainable development with good access to local services

– A proposal that is easy for residents to navigate

– A scheme that is built around good quality amenity & landscaped spaces

– A Home that is flexible with support for changing levels of disability and barrier free access throughout

– A development that is safe and secure, with natural surveillance of parking and the public realm

Services at the home include Palliative Care, Respite Care, Nursing Care, and specialist Dementia Care.

Hunters designed the home based on Brendocare’s vision to create somewhere with ‘Friendly, compassionate staff dedicate themselves to improving wellbeing and providing professional care for residents, who can live well knowing their dignity and individuality will always be respected.’

The Brendoncare Foundation is a registered charity. It operates seven care homes and five extra care facilities across Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex.
