Reimagining Cardiology at Kingston Hospital to Improve Patient Experience and Departmental Efficiency
This redesigned Cardiology Department at Kingston Hospital is a project driven by two core goals: enhancing the user experience and maximising departmental efficiency.
Positioned adjacent to the main outpatient area, the reconfiguration and expansion of the Cardiology Department has been thoughtfully planned to better serve patients and medical staff. The layout has been optimised to improve patient flow, minimising travel time between spaces and ensuring a smoother, more intuitive experience for all visitors.
It features patient areas including A.C.P, Echo, ECG, and Pacing Rooms, plus staff and support zones for better care.
A key focus of the redesign was improving the overall patient journey through the department. By streamlining circulation routes, we’ve made navigation throughout the building clear and simple.

Expanded & redesigned cardiology department
Special attention was paid to the choice of finishes, textures, and colours throughout the clinical spaces, creating a visually distinct environment that promotes ease of movement.
The carefully chosen differences in materials, not only makes the space look better but also helps people find their way, especially those who have sight limitations. Details including the accessible restroom which has bold yellow panels and dark grab rails provide essential visual contrast.
This thoughtful design promotes both accessibility and patient comfort.
The designs throughout the hospital extends beyond appearance—every detail was considered to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their physical or visual abilities, can move comfortably and independently throughout the department.
Hunters acted as architects and civil & structural engineers on the project and it’s located in the London Borough of Kingston Upon Thames.
