Our architects designed and space-planned the refurbished London Clinic, a purpose built cancer centre.
Hunters Healthcare Team has designed The London Clinic’s Rapid Diagnostics Centre, located on Harley Street in London, where the King’s Speech consultancy sessions were held.
This impressive project features a six-storey building at 142-146 Harley Street, which has been beautifully refurbished by The Howard de Walden Estate into a series of modern consulting houses.
In collaboration with the client, we transformed the existing shell and core basement into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility.
Our aim was to create an exclusive and inviting experience for patients, combining functionality with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
3T MRI scanner installed
Four specialist areas across dedicated floors
6-storey healthcare facility
10,000+ rapid cancer diagnostics & screenings targeted annually
The first floor of 146 Harley Street was the original ‘Kings Speech” Room, from which Lionel Logue provided his Speech and Language Therapy clinics to clients including King George VI.
In the basement, we created special areas for important medical tests like ultrasound, mammography, and MRI scans.
The rooms are decorated with fresh spring colours, inspired by the bright yellows of daffodils and the soft hues of blossoms from the client’s brand.
This design choice not only looks great but also helps make the space feel calm and soothing for patients, ensuring they have a comforting experience during their visits.
To make the patient experience even better, Hunters created a variety of custom furniture. This adds a homely touch and makes the space more versatile for different needs.
Behind the main building, the mews houses showcase the original roof trusses, which we preserved. This brings a unique and eye-catching look to the new staff quarters, blending history with modern design.
Rarely do you get such a prestigious building to work on and with such an inspiring team. The concept design was to respect and compliment the beautiful Georgian buildings whilst providing a comfortable and serene place to receive outstanding healthcare. We’ve made use of natural light and original features wherever possible and created a welcoming place for all patients and staff whilst using our technical healthcare experience.”

The London Clinic
Providing the latest in diagnostic imaging, this basement conversion had complicated internal and external space, creating design and logistical challenges.
Installing the state of the art 3T MRI with laser bridge scanner required the closing of Marylebone High Street to enable the machine to be craned down to the basement via a lightwell (see video below).
Converted from existing medical physics offices into a new 3T MRI suite, the clients were committed to exceptional cancer care and MRI experiences. The design aligned patient and clinical spaces, around a spacious MRI suite that met not only the clinical needs but has a sophisticated, high quality interior finish.
Through an intensive design process we were able to design out any steel shielding requirements to create an MRI suite with a relaxing and welcoming environment. This was enhanced by customised joinery throughout which hides unnecessary clutter and maximises storage as well as improving the clinical workflows.
Examples included:
The laser bridge and control screen carefully integrated alongside dedicated coil storage within the MRI suite.
Custom designed bins, glove, apron and paper towel dispensers integrated into joinery within the clinical prep rooms.
The aesthetics complemented the Clinic’s existing look and feel with walnut laminate used throughout. Muted splashes of colour were introduced through furnishings and wall paints while printed splashbacks and illuminated graphic ceilings were introduced to lift spaces.
